'He walked right up to us and adopted us': Person goes on a walk with their senior dog when, out of nowhere, a gray cat pops out of the nearby sewer and follows them home

We keep telling people, especially cat people, that is it important to stay vigilant. The CDS can get you anywhere and at any time. The CDS, for all the non-cat people out there, is the Cat Distribution System, and the CDS has no mercy. It doesn't matter where you are, what stage in your life you're at, whether you want a cat or not, if the CDS chooses you, there will be no mercy. You will be adopted by a cat. 

You can be caught by the CDS during a midnight picnic, a romantic date during which you did not expect to adopt a pet-baby. You can be adopted by a cat on your morning walk, when all you were looking for was some fresh air, not a screaming kitten. You can even be at home, playing video games on your computer, when a kitten will suddenly fly in through your window and straight into your heart. Really, that's how it works. We've never heard of a cat popping out of a sewer, following someone how, and getting adopted that way, but… we suppose we shouldn't be surprised at this point.

    Last week we were walking our old dog at the park and this little guy popped out of the sewer and followed us home. He has slowly made himself comfortable in the back yard and just last night came inside the house and got into our bed. Our dog is jealous but I have wanted a cat for years and he came at the perfect time. Everyone say hello to Yorshka.

  • That truly is how it happens sometimes. The cats see us, something in their brain lights up, a big bright red “home” sign flashing in front of their eyes, and they just… follow us and make our home their home. And the most beautiful thing? We never fight it.

    gkpetrescue it was pure magic luck too! I was on a vacation in wisconsin. I was driving to my airbnb in the country and I pulled over before I knew I'd lose cell service bcl wanted to download a book onto my kindle. no kidding, I pulled over then looked out my window and saw this cat hanging out in the culvert. I was going to go into town to get him some food but he followed me to my car so I said f it and put him inside. he poked around for a minute then just went to sleep <3

  • He just knew. Something about your and your pupper made that lightbulb go off in his head. And the best confirmation that he was right about his decision… well, it's the fact that you knew it too. He followed you, but if you were not the right match, you would have tried to resist. Except you didn't.
